Eleven Seconds (Shamus) was a sensational winner at Pinjarra yesterday over 1416m. After been caught wide for the majority of the race Shamus kept coming and won going away by a length after being well ridden by jockey Brad Parnham.
It has been a difficult road for Gangemi Racing to get Shamus back to his best. The Encosta De Lago gelding has always shown outstanding promise from his first trials as a three year old and the stable has always expected big things from him, however, he has always struggled to race truly and deliver on his potential. Just 6 months ago a scan identified a hairline fracture in a leg and this seemed to explain his wayward nature. After a good break he came back to racing but was disappointing first up. Further examination was undertaken and it was found that he had some back issues that were impacting his movement. After some extensive work by the team, it was thought that Shamus had turned the corner and yesterday’s win was a testament to a great team effort.
His owners have been very patient and those that travelled down to see him yesterday were over the moon with the belated Christmas present! Shamus has untapped potential and we look forward to seeing him progress over the coming weeks.
